Teaching Activities:

Courses Taught:

Principals of Biology II laboratory (UGA, BIOL 1108L), Laboratory Instructor: Fall 2003, Spring 2004, Fall 2004

Principals of Biology II Honors laboratory (UGA, BIOL 2108L), Laboratory Instructor: Spring 2005

Graduate School Teaching Seminar (UGA, GRSC 7770), Co-instructor: Fall 2006, 2007

Principals of Biology II Honors Lecture (UGA, BIOL 2108H), Co-instructor: Spring 2008

Guest Instructor:

Principals of Biology II lecture (~250 undergraduate students): Fall 2004

Plant Physiological Ecology lab (14 graduate students): Spring 2006

Mentor for Undergraduate Research, 2006-present.  Mentored 3 undergraduates in independent research (BIOL 4960 and BIOL 4960Honors).  I help students learn concepts of plant physiological ecology and develop scientific research and writing skills.  One mentee presented our research as a poster at the UGA 2006 spring CURO symposium.

Managing Research Assistants, 2005-present.  I hire, train and manage the student assistants who work for hourly wage in our research lab.  This has given me the opportunity to work closely with 8 students including those with physical or learning disabilities.

K-12 Science educator outreach, 2006-present.  Constructing a website that will assist K-12 educators in using inquiry based activities to teach about plants in their classrooms. (Collaboration with Dr. Darley, UGA, and Nancy Vandergrift, N.E. PRISM)

Biology educator (tenure track) search committee, student representative, 2005-2006.

Partnership for Reform in Science and Mathematics (PRISM) evaluation meeting participant, 2005.  Invited to and participated in deliberations during a critical site visit held for National Science Foundation reviewers of the $35 million PRISM grant to Georgia’s Board of Regents.

BIOL 1108L Laboratory Preparatory Sessions volunteer, 2005.  Provided preparatory sessions to help BIOL1108L graduate laboratory instructors become familiar and confident teaching with the new inquiry style lab manual that I co-authored.

Plant Biology Graduate Student Association (PBGSA) Teaching Officer, 2004-2005.  Responsibilities included increasing teaching awareness, providing peer feedback for lectures and labs, documenting teaching experiences and mentoring graduate students currently teaching.
