Additional Teaching Activities:

 Courses Taught:

Principals of Biology II Honors Lecture (UGA, BIOL 2108H), Primary Instructor. Co-instructor: David Eisner, M.D., Spring 2008

Graduate School Teaching Seminar (UGA, GRSC 7770), Primary Instructor, Co-instructors: Lisa Donovan, Fall 2006 and Michelle Momany, Fall 2007

Principals of Biology II Honors Lab (UGA, BIOL 2108L), Lab Instructor, Spring 2005

Principals of Biology II Lab (UGA, BIOL1108L), Lab Instructor, Fall 2003, Spring 2004, Fall 2004

Guest Instructor:

Principals of Biology II lecture, UGA (~250 undergraduate students): Fall 2004

Plant Physiological Ecology lab, UGA (14 graduate students): Spring 2006

Mentor for Undergraduate Research, 2006-2007.  Mentored 3 undergraduates in independent research (BIOL 4960 and BIOL 4960Honors).  Helped students learn concepts of plant physiological ecology and develop scientific research and writing skills.  One mentee presented our research in a poster at the UGA spring 2007 CURO symposium.

Managing Research Assistants, 2005-2008.  I hired, trained and managed the student assistants who worked for hourly wage in our research lab.  I worked closely with 8 students including those with physical or learning disabilities.

K-12 Science educator outreach, 2006-2007.  Designed and disseminated inquiry-style teaching units that use plants to teach K-12 GA performance standards.  Targeted elementary and high school levels.  (Collaboration with Marshall Darley, UGA, and Nancy Vandergrift, N.E. PRISM)

Biology educator (tenure track) search committee, student representative, 2005-2006.

Laboratory Preparatory Sessions volunteer, 2005.  Provided preparatory sessions to help BIOL 1108L graduate laboratory instructors become familiar and confident teaching with the new inquiry style lab manual that I co-authored.

Plant Biology Graduate Student Association Teaching Officer, 2004-2005.  Responsibilities included increasing teaching awareness, providing peer feedback for lectures and labs, documenting teaching experiences and mentoring graduate students currently teaching.
